The 2nd Annual CFIG Camp will take place at Air Sailing May 21-25, 2012. This seminar includes daily morning ground school sessions and afternoon dual flights designed to significantly enhance your background aeronautical knowledge and to improve your instructional ability by exposing you to concepts and experiences not always available or provided in other CFIG training plans.

Solo flying will also be available, for those attendees wishing to further explore or exploit our high desert/mountain soaring arena.  Dataloggers, official observers and other support will be available or you may provide your own.

This five day camp is for current holders of the CFIG rating, as well as those who have passed the CFIG and FOI FAA written exams and are working toward CFIG certification, and who desire a concentrated, focused program specifically geared toward expanding their instructional skills to their fullest potential.

 
       
 
Who Should Attend
 
   

This five-day camp is intended for new, experienced or pending CFIGs who want to:

Develop and sharpen their aircraft-handling skills in all conditions

Learn advanced soaring techniques and gain familiarity with high desert and mountain soaring

Develop a greater understanding of the physical principles of flight and meteorology as they apply to soaring and sailplane operations

Develop a deeper understanding of the human animal as it applies to learning to fly, and to improve the ability to provide the best instruction possible for all students--regardless of aptitude, prior experience, gender, or other factors.

CFIG Camp is five days of soaring talk and practice. Daily lectures, demonstrations, and flights start at 9:00 AM and continue through at least 5 PM.  Optional evening sessions will feaure guided discussions of typical instructional scenarios and problems.  Participants are encouraged to come to class with case histories or current student difficulties to share. 

 
   
Prerequisites
 
     

Participants must have:

  • A Flight Instructor certificate with a Glider category rating, or a Commercial certficate with a Glider rating AND the CFIG/FOI writtens passed
  • Current San Francisco and Klamath Falls Sectionals
  • Air Sailing Membership (required) is $50 per year. For pilots coming to ASI for the first time, your first year's membership is free.

Participants are encouraged to bring two-place gliders and a second instructor from the same club or organization. Please contact Mark regarding a substantial discount in this case.

All pilots should be familiar with the 2012 Field Operations Guide.

All pilots who are new to Air Sailing must receive an area check before taking their first solo flight. Depending upon experience in high desert soaring, this may include a dual ride with an instructor.

 
   
Cost
 
   

A $300 participant fee per glider includes five days of training and course materials. The participant fee also includes a $50 registration deposit, non-refundable for registrants who cancel less than four weeks prior to the event. Tow charges, living expenses, glider rentals, and incidental costs (e.g., oxygen, evening meals), are not included in the participant fee.

Please note that there is a special price ($225) for WSPA members (a 25% discount.) WSPA annual dues are $15, and there are no special eligibility requirements for membership.  For more information, visit www.womensoaring.org
